Max's Race Report

Max and his #8 Gallagher Chip Ganassi machine headed to the village of Watkins Glen at the weekend, the 3.4 mile track hosted the first road race in the US after World War 2 and here it was hosting the penultimate round of the 2016 IndyCar season.

On a track that suited Max’s style, he managed his best qualifying of the year making it into the Fast 6.

“I’m over the moon for Gallagher Chip Ganassi Racing with a Firestone Fast 6 start. I qualified a bit better in Iowa, but this is my first appearance in the Firestone Fast 6. I’d say I had to put a lot more effort into this qualifying effort than I did Iowa though with how physical of a circuit this is. It’s literally pushing as hard as you can from green flag to checkered flag. I’m just really proud of the team and happy with our result.”

Under blue skies on race day Max was involved in a first turn incident losing track position which put him on the back foot on a circuit where overtaking is a challenge. However, he still managed to hit the top 10 by the time the chequered flag fell.

“It was a day that could have been fantastic but ended up slightly disappointing after running P2. I got damage on lap 1 turn 1 with the steering and then for the rest of the race my pace was pretty decent considering I was held back by the issue.”

The season finale comes in Sonoma on September 18th.  Max secured an IndyLights podium here last year so he’ll be hopeful of a strong result.
