Max's Race Report
Max Chilton continues his strong progress in the Verizon IndyCar Series with a hard fought 14th place on the streets of Long Beach, California.
After struggling with set-up during practice Max encountered some shifting issues during qualifying, missing three shifts on his fastest lap, limiting the potential of a quick lap leaving him with 19th spot on the grid for the race. However, some wise strategy moves from the team and some strong driving from Max meant a solid climb up the leaderboard to take the chequered flag in 14th.
Max Chilton, No. 8 Gallagher Chevrolet: “It was a really fun, exciting race. It could have gone two ways and it ended up not being too bad. In the start I struggled with constantly getting caught in traffic and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We had a really good strategy all race, especially the last stint when we did a full fuel stint when the others didn’t and ended up struggling a bit at the end. I was able to catch a couple of cars in the last five laps and then get past Rahal at the finish line. It’s not the best result, but considering where we started I don’t think a 14th place finish is all that bad.”
Next up is a trip to Barber Motorsports Park for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on 24th April. The 90 lap race starts at 14:38 local time. Max picked up a podium in 2015 with Carlin during the Indy Lights visit to the track.
