HARD BATTLE AT BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK
Max returned to Barber Motorsports Park after a podium here in 2015 with Carlin in IndyLights. Qualifying performance was strong with Max taking P11 and top rookie honours, 6 places ahead of his nearest “Rookie of The Year” rival.
Speaking after qualifying, Max Chilton said: “The start was good and we did back-to-back sets of red Firestone alternate tires and I think it paid off for us. But with that, in the second session we didn’t have any tires left, but I’m happy with the job we all did and getting to Q2. I think finishing where we did after where we started was a big win so far this weekend and I’m looking forward to seeing how far we can move up tomorrow in the race.”
However, luck was not on Max’s side during the race, contact at the start resulted in damage that would hamper his entire race, battling with a lack of downforce throughout, Max did all he could to finish, bringing the Gallagher car home in P21.
“That’s obviously not the way we had hoped the day would go with the Gallagher car today. We had contact at the start of the race, and after the opening laps the car just didn’t have any downforce as a result. It was very tough to drive and in that situation you really can’t do anything. We just had to make the best out of a tough situation today.”
We now look ahead to the Month of May [12th – 14] on the IMS Road Course for the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. The 82 race gets underway on Saturday 14th at 15:50 local time
